Christy Leibowitz
Birth Mark Doula, Toronto
Specialities: Postpartum Doula, 2SLGBTQIA Support, Registered Early Childhood Educator
Christy (she/her) has always cared deeply for family mental wellness. Starting at the age of twelve, she babysat pro-bono for families that could not afford a babysitter. She wanted to ensure that all parents had opportunities to rest and re-charge their batteries. Her many years of babysitting experience led her to peruse a career in childcare.
Though Christy was tremendously passionate about her work, she increasingly felt drawn to supporting the entire family in a more direct way. Doula work combines her passion for supporting parental rest, years of experience in infant care, and her ability to listen and be truly present with someone. She became a trained postpartum doula through CAPPA and is a member of the Ontario Association of Doulas.
Christy is passionate about supporting parents’ physical and mental wellness as they navigate the 4th trimester. She believes in five pillars: listening to parents as they share their experience, providing rest and nutrition, building parents’ confidence in newborn care, affirming parents’ decisions and unique strengths, and providing quality referrals when needed.
Christy was also previously an intern in a treatment foster home as well as a youth shelter. She has volunteered with NAN KIND, an organization that provides free respite childcare to parents with cancer. She is perusing a Master of Counselling Psychology Degree with the hopes of continuing to support parental wellness.
Christy is passionate about creating an inclusive space for all. As a white, cisgender, queer, able bodied person she is actively committed to listening, learning, and challenging her implicit biases. She acknowledges that she practices on the traditional territories of The Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and Wendat Peoples.
