Abby Barclay

Birth Mark Development Manager, Toronto

Specialties: full-spectrum, Reiki healer, trauma-informed care

Abby (she/her) is a Full Spectrum Doula, Reiki Healer and the Development Manager at Birth Mark. She trained as a birth and postpartum doula with DONA and as an abortion doula with The Doula Project NYC.

After a 15 year career in the fashion industry, Abby left New York City and moved to Toronto where she began to pursue her heart-centred work as a doula. Becoming a doula felt like a true calling for her. It fulfilled her desire to be of greater service to her community and support birthing people in their reproductive health journey.

Her passion for supporting and empowering birthing people and her desire to create and hold space for the entire birth and parenting experience deeply motivate her as a doula. Though often times the journey of parenting can feel overwhelming, she believes that becoming a parent is one of the most transformational experiences in a person's life, and she aims to be a nonjudgmental and unbiased source of support during this intimate and sacred time.

Abby practices under a trauma informed, anti-oppressive and evidence-based model of care. She approaches each client with the belief that they are unique and that their choices deserve to be honoured. By showing up as a calm, trustworthy presence, and truly meeting her clients where they are on their journey, Abby provides individualized care and service that suits her client’s needs and goals.

Through her work with Birth Mark, Abby has had the privilege of supporting many families and individuals who otherwise would not have had access to a doula. Being a part of an organization whose mission is to make doulas accessible to everyone has been the perfect alignment of Abby’s ideals and goals in offering doula support.

Abby lives in Toronto with her wife and 13 year old Chihuahua, Poncho. When she’s not working as a doula, Abby enjoys practicing yoga, studying tarot, being outside in nature and cuddling with Poncho.
